Status | Completed |
Purpose and goal
The purpose of the project was to contribute to increased knowledge and understanding of open geodata. The aim was to provide educational material and to spread the results. On uli-geoforum.se the material is published in the forms of three Powerpoint lectures with recorded sound, filmed presentations from the conference Geoinfo 2015, and links to further reading. Lectures and videos are available for free under CC-BY licence. Information about the material has been spread through ULI Geoforum´s communication channels, including a seminar on the topic, Öppna geodata i kommuner.
Results and expected effects
The published material will give civil servants in municipalities and government authorities, above all, increased knowledge and understanding of open geodata. Three lectures highlight expectations, open licences, and the 5-star system concerning open geodata. Filmed presentations from Geoinfo 2015 and a collection of web links gives information about initiatives and best practices. The increased knowledge is expected to lead to an increased number of geodata producers discussing the questions that need to be dealt with in order for geodata to be made open and available for free.
Approach and implementation
To make sure that the educational material would be unique and relevant, contacts were taken with stakeholders about the educational needs, and with project teams in a national cooperation project within the public sector, for open geodata. The lectures have been produced by professor emeritus Anders Östman (Novogit AB), in the form of presentations in Powerpoint with recorded sound. At Geoinfo 2015 six presentations on open geodata were recorded by Varg Katten AB. The videos are available on Youtube and uli-geoforum.se. The material in full was presented at a seminar on December 9.
