Purpose and goal

The project called The Mission´s main goal was to implement and test a game to enhance Learning in the science center by adding a layer of digital technology. Through this Project the organization has created a very promising product with a high future potential. This game makes the exhibit more attractive, broadens the target visitor group and creates a better platform to increase the interest in science and technology for all the exhibits displayed on Tomtits. The Mission is a great example of a product that fills a demand that has long been missing in the science center scene.

Results and expected effects

The main goal of the Project was to increase the engagement in the exhibit in order to increase the time of interaction with the individual exhibit stations leading to a greater learning potential. The scientific studies carried out in the project shows that the gamified design increases the engagement and the motivation for most visitors and also shows how to use gamification as an engagement tool in science centers. This project has increased the in house competence for the modern technology required to take this product to the next level that Tomtits is aiming to do.

Approach and implementation

The development process in the project has been agile with continous acceptancy and prototype testing and two large public test session where the scientific studies has been conducted. This has created a new way to work within the organization and is seen as the solution to many of the problems that regularly occur within Projects of this type. Tomtit has reqruited many new competences necessary to succeed in the Project and to keep running Projects of this sort in the future. The cooperation with researcher has led to scientific publications and potential to run more similar Projects.
