Purpose and goal

The purpose with the Faste Laboratory was to enable Swedish industry to carry out transformations from traditional product oriented businesses to functional product businesses and thereby contribute to sustainable growth. The overall objective for stage 4 was to validate, implement and utilize previously developed methods, tools and processes needed to enable functional products with optimized life cycle cost and customer value and that the industry partners are able take lead in such businesses.

Expected results and effects

The result includes 32 scientific journal papers, 24 conference publications, 260 knowledge sharing events, 1 licentiate and 6 PhD:s. The centre has established a completely new theory about functional products and haws further utilized several results at the partner companies. Effects can already be viewed where many companies (within and beyond the centre) make performance based businesses. Other stakeholders (politicians and funders) today use diverse instruments to promote transformations to businesses based on functional products.

Planned approach and implementation

During stage 4, 6 industrial companies and 6 research subjects at Luleå University of Technology participated in the Faste Laboratory. The work was organized in 9 implementation projects, 4 research projects and 4 strategic projects divided into 3 work packages and the management was organized in a separate work package. To facilitate result utilization, the implementation projects were managed by industry representatives. The other projects were managed by academics and professional communicators carried out the dissemination of results beyond the research community.
