Purpose and goal

The Collaboration project Treesearch aims at establishing an open national collaboration platform for research and innovation, where academia, industry, research institutes, private foundations, and the government lay the foundation for future innovations to make Sweden leading in developing a circular bio-based economy. The goal of Treesearch is to become a world-leading collaboration platform for research on new materials and speciality chemicals from the Swedish forest. During Stage 2, processes and activities within the platform have been established according to plan.

Expected results and effects

The project has enhanced industrial relevance and given an efficient two-way knowledge transfer between academia and industry, several industrial and academic partners have joined, as well as almost 300 researchers. Through the supported access to research infrastructure (95 projects), the efficiency of research has increased. An industry-defined postdoctoral program has been established, which has strengthened the link between research and industrial development. Finally, the establishment of Treesearch has strengthened the attractiveness of the forest industry.

Planned approach and implementation

Stage 2 of the Collaboration Project (which is operated as a consortium) has been led by a board consisting of both academic and industrial parties. This has generated great commitment and broad support for development of activities and processes. The four areas of activity within Treeserarch have all working groups where the industry is represented, which has contributed to a large industrial commitment to implementation and participation.
