Call Challenge-driven innovation - Stage 1 Initiation 2011

Purpose and goal

The project aims to replace natural sand with industrially produced fine aggregates from solid rock. Natural sand is used in many different applications such as concrete, asphalt, mortars, facade renders, flooring, fillers and shotcrete. Mineral composition, particle shape and size distribution have been identified as critical parameters. Increased knowledge, new production method and technology are needed to meet the new requirements. Cross functional cooperation between universities, institutes, cement, aggregate, concrete producers and final users will be needed.
