Important results from the project
Safety and security are key related concerns of products and systems. However, they are commonly addressed separately, which could result in accidents e.g. due to neglecting security threats that could jeopardize safety. In accordance with its objectives the project has proposed (1) how to consider safety and security within PIIA, and (2) guidelines for how safety and security should be considered by companies developing or operating products or systems.
Expected long term effects
Based on identified deficiencies in current safety work, the project has developed a method to include security aspects in safety work, together with recommendations for how PiiA should consider safety and security in its projects. The project is expected to lead to improvement of relevant standards and safety practices, which in a long-term perspective is expected to give safer and more secure products and systems.
Approach and implementation
The project was guided by a case study from the PiiA project Wroom, together with studies of relevant safety and security standards, as well as other literature. Additionally, three industrial workshops and discussions with the PiiA management provided additional insights and perspectives from industrial practice and external requirements. This provided effective means to meet the project objectives.
