Important results from the project
The goal of this project was to explore the possibility of generating solar power from a window. Therefore we: 1 - Studied more about the technique through both literature and correspondence with the company that developed the technology. 2 - Performed a preliminary measurement to calculate and assess potential of generating electricity. 3 - Analysed technical and operational problems /challenges. 4 - Assessed Life-span and environmental foot print.
Expected long term effects
Our preliminary measurement clearly showed that a product applying this technology has too short life span, too low energy generating capacity, and poor durability under operating conditions. Our assessment suggests that this technology is not sufficiently matured / developed to be launched on the market.
Approach and implementation
In order to assess ´technical readiness´ of the technology we needed to consider a number of important parameters. In this technique, life time, environmental durability and efficiency to generate electricity have been identified as important aspects. All mentioned parameters take into account the operational challenge and the potential of generating electricity. The study, including measurements, showed that all these parameters are too low and are not at an acceptable level today.
