Coordinator INTERACTIVE INSTITUTE SWEDISH ICT AB - Interactive Institute, Eskilstuna
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration February 2016 - September 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

THE AIM of the project is to develop co operative system of daylight/ electrical light, that gives ambient light for private and public spaces in Nigeria. THE GOAL of the project is to develop a solution that can give an energy efficient ambient lighting and at the same time decrease the use of electricity for light related cooling. The advanced and semi-advanced solution is modified for grid and off grid areas in Nigeria. The low cost solution should at the same time make it possible to charge mobile phones and use small household appliances

Expected results and effects

RESULT. The 6 work packages are performed and the project by that, prepared for the development of the technique, the pilots and the collecting of data, during the second year. EFFECTS: The solutions that will be developed within the project, is expected to give a good ambient light and decrease the mean for use of electricity for lighting from estimated 21kWh/m2 yr ( in Sweden) towards estimated 7-5 kWh/m2 yr, when daylight technique can be used. Light related use of electricity for cooling will also be reduced. The actual data for Nigeria need to be developed within the project.

Planned approach and implementation

The work in the project has followed the 6 work packages. The opinions about how to work in the consortium is similar between the members of the consortium. The cooperation with the organisations Give watts and Lighting Africa has been valuable due to their deep knowledge about Africa and lighting. The distance to the consortium is a challenge. Despite this has the cooperation been successful and the members in the consortium are prepared to be more active in the next step of the project.
