Simplified process for preparing Biochar

Reference number
Coordinator ENVIGAS AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration March 2014 - September 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Projects 6 Goals 1 Determine the residence time required to ensure the full pyrolysis process, 2 To determine how and to what extent the water vapor participates enhance the coal conversion, 3 Determining how the pyrolysis gas with a high CO2 content changes when passing through the coal bed, 4 Determining the productgas quality, 5 Determine the overall efficiency of the process to determine the, 6 Production of charcoal / MW fuel power

Results and expected effects

1 In perf 5 test runs it was found that the geometric structure of the shackt and reactor part was within acceptable levels to ensure the pyrolysis we wanted 2 We can assume that the wapor extracted from the fuel in the process has a positive impact of coalconversion but we did not test this 3 We did not test have time or finace to test the change of flugas when passing through the carbon bed 4 Took samples of the gas with gasbags who we sent for analysis to the institution ETC in Piteå 5 Did not assure the process overall efficiency 6 Did not determine the amount of production of charcoal / MW fuel power

Approach and implementation

The arrangement was as following, we built a first prototype of PPG reactor at SLU / BTC premises in Umeå during the winter / spring 2014, at the same time was a detailed manual and´Hassop analys´ done for the test runs, several test runs were conducted during April and May 2014. A summary of results and data etc. was filled in a final report in June and August.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
