Sensors for obstacle detection within the field of heavy machinery

Reference number
Coordinator Föreningen Tunga fordon
Funding from Vinnova SEK 450 000
Project duration September 2015 - March 2016
Status Completed
Venture Strategic innovation programme for process industrial IT and automation – PiiA

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the feasibility study SE Hinder was to jointly create a basis for testing activities to evaluate sensors for production of machine capability Obstacle detection of machines in forests, mines and quarries. Obstacle detection is important, both as an individual capacity and as a precondition for continued development of safe autonomous driving. Within Swedish process industry higher efficiency and enhanced security can be achieved using Obstacle detection. The goal of the project was to apply for a R&D project within SIP Piia in spring of 2016, which also took place.

Results and expected effects

The feasibility study is successfully completed. Deliverables are produced in terms of specifications, methodology and testing procedure and a list of providers of sensor manufacturers. In addition to these documents is also a state-of-the-art document. With three of Sweden´s major working machine manufacturers common interest and effort can hopefully the test project SIGHT start after the summer, in which the sensors will be evaluated and technologies combined.

Approach and implementation

The project group consisted of three companies, two universities, one institute and two clusters. Participants in the project have worked in four work packages and all have met physically three times by various project participants during the six months the project lasted. In order to develop and then secure the result, the group has circulated the documentation between them. Mutually, but also together, they have looked at current and even future standards, and other relevant policy documents in order to build skills.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
