Purpose and goal
The purpose of the project was to strengthen the ability to design models of sensor functions that are suitable to use in conceptual design of aircraft. The aim was also to strengthen the co-operation between Saab and the Swedish Defence University. The goals of the project were to develop methods for model design, organize workshops to disseminate results and to publish results. Methods have been devised and documented, seminars and meetings have been held. Contributions to papers within other closely related NFFP projects have been made, but no standalone publication has been made.
Expected results and effects
The result of the project is a step forward for the ability to model sensor functions in a way that supports aircraft conceptual development. Supported by the weight of a research project, it has been possible to share insight into all the steps required to create a useful model. However, in order to succesfully design models it is necessary to adapt the methodology for each project. It is particularly important to allot time to properly formulate what needs to be done. Each model has a specific purpose, which means that it can be necessary to make several models of one function to suit the needs.
Planned approach and implementation
The main idea of the project was to connect Saab and the Swedish Defence University, SEDU, by having a ”Straddler”, employed by Saab, visiting SEDU on a regular basis. Doing so, the research would be performed in an environment where people have a first-hand experience with defense and related equipment. Due the pandemic, all travel was put on hold and the interaction was limited to virual meetings. However, during the last months of the project, the straddler had the privilige to give two lectures in different courses.
