Call IoT for innovative social benefits and a better life for everyone in a connected world

Purpose and goal

sensLab Phase 2 aimed at preparing the collection of different types of health data using IoT sensors. The goal, to establish the IT architecture of sensLab during 2022, has been met by collecting data via IoT sensors and visualizing the data in a self-developed conceptual web solution.

Expected results and effects

The primary result of the project is a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) for collecting data from, among other things, Fitbit Carge 5 via APIs and heart rate sensor connected to Raspberry Pi. The PoC has been verified by collecting test data from project members. The results have been shown to employees at the hospital, patients and citizens via the event sensLab Live! (part of Innovationsveckan 2022) and during the inauguration of sensLab on December 7th 2022 (published reportage at SU). This visibility has contributed to tying clinical expertise to sensLab.

Planned approach and implementation

By conceptualizing and testing different data communication solutions of IoT sensors, the development team has been able to evalute the complexity of different solutions and at the same time further develop the IT infrastructure of sensLab. Continuous dissemination of results has contributed to building a network both within and outside SU. This preparatory work has created the conditions for further development of sensLab, which in the long run can increase SU´s ability to develop and test concepts and prototypes together with citizens, patients and healthcare personnel.
