Important results from the project
The purpose and goal with this project was to develop concepts and prototypes aiming for a comprehensive solution for all work related to quality and radiation safety within the radiology practice at Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset, since no such comprehensive solution was available on the market at the time of project initiation. Potential solutions have been developed and demonstrated through the project, and the commercial market today offers solutions closer to the radiology practice´s needs. Therefore, the goal of this project should be viewed as achieved.
Expected long term effects
Two separate prototypes have been developed. One is considered to be less innovative but close to becoming a commercialized product, being (more or less) a development of an already existing product. The other prototype demonstrates a very innovative approach, but is however considered to not be a complete solution at this point, partly due to force-majeure circumstances. Therefore, none of the developed prototypes comprehensively meet the original challenge. However, much valuable knowledge has been gained that has potential to result in realized solutions within near future.
Approach and implementation
The project format has provided a setting to develop innovative solutions that better meet the radiological practice´s needs. The execution of the project, with regards to cooperation with the suppliers and the development of innovative solutions, has overall functioned very well. However, the project format has also created frustration in terms of being perceived as unwieldy and time consuming, caused by bureaucracy and that internal processes (mostly related to IT, financial and legal support) are not adapted to support innovative projects like XQuality to any greater extent
