Resource-efficient tissue making based on Brazilian raw materials

Reference number
Coordinator INNVENTIA AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 4 774 319
Project duration October 2014 - October 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project has aimed to develop a resource-efficient concept for production of fibre-based strength agents using eucalyptus pulp for application in tissue manufacturing. The objective to demonstrate the developed concept at a paper mill has been reached within the project.

Expected results and effects

A concept for manufacture of fibre-based strength agents based eucalyptus pulp that can be integrated and enable cost savings in tissue manufacturing at industrial scale, without deteriorating the function and quality in terms of strength and softness, has been developed and demonstrated in this project. The studies have also shown that diluted fines materials can be thickened by decanter centrifugation, which means reduced costs and less environmental impact at transportation of such materials. Further on site test runs would provide the basis for the industrial implementation.

Planned approach and implementation

The project started up with studies on the manufacture and characterization of various fibre-based strength agents. A lab sheet study using different strength additives and dosages has been the basis for the design of a resource-efficient concept that finally was demonstrated within tissue manufacturing. Selected strength agents has been produced at Innventia´s pilot plant and transported by trucks to the factory plant. A pre-trial was conducted to practice management and logistics for the final trial. Open and innovative collaborations are the project key factors.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
