Important results from the project
The full project step 1 to 3 will strengthen authorities possibility to enforce the shipping industries to use correct fuel within Sulpher emission zones (SECA) to improve health, water and air environment and to reach a level playing field. The model must be certified. A feasibility study for the certification during step 1, a certification during step 2 and an implementation of the full enforcement in step 3. Contact has been established with PWC Netherlands. With a unit that led the EU work with CO2 monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) and has accepted to verify the method.
Expected long term effects
The project has during the past six months reached the results expected. As far as can be expected a verification process has been prepared and is ready to be initiated. Such a process is expected to include a larger number of ships than for what consumption has been calculated previously, and in addition, include improvements to facilitate handling. Taking its departure in the wide covering situational analysis that has been done, contacts taken by the Swedish partners, inside as well as outside of the project group, the suggested method remains practically unique in the market.
Approach and implementation
From application, trough the project the same group has remained. A group that is planning to also file a Vinnova step 2, but also to a two-stage Horizon 2020 application in Jan and Oct 2017. The travelling during this time has been departing from Sweden. Contacts have generally been maintained by phone or E-mail. With both international partners, a national authority and a well-recognized global environmental organization already in step 1 contributes to our opinion we have, in a clear way, fulfilled the requirements and intentions set on a project team even during both step 2 and step 3.
