Reference number
Coordinator Qlocx AB - Wenner-gren Center
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration May 2016 - January 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the Qlocx project was to transform an idea and a concept to a physical product and test it in a real/live environment with carriers and consumers to evaluate how attractive the solution is for stakeholders operating in the market. The objectives were to build a physical product, together with a software and perform the actual pilot in early stages. Both the purpose and the objectives were achieved with a positive outcome and within specified time frames.

Expected results and effects

The project resulted in 30 ex. of the first delivery box prototype that was exhibited in Vaxholm, Stockholm. In addition, we built a software service to receive parcels as a mobile application where consumers, among other things, can monitor the delivery, get notifications when the goods are delivered and physically open the box. Two carreier firms were connected to the system where Bring and Citymail began delivering packages through 6 e-retailers. Overall outcome was 68 deliveries and lots of feedback to make the system better with a generally positive response of the functionality.

Planned approach and implementation

The format of the project followed three well-structured work packages with a fairly realistic timetable. The project followed the timetable with minor variations and was carried out basically the same as described in the implementation plan. Desirable had been more carrier firms and e-commerce retailers to join the scheme from the start but as we got a better understanding of the complex flows that pervades the last-mile logistics through the project, we were very satisfied with two carriers and 6 e-commerce retailers, as well as a good parcel traffic.
