Project duration March 2015 - June 2019
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose is to strengthen Swedish participation in European R&I projects and to ensure that Swedish interest are included in European calls for proposals. Together with SIO Grafen, interests have been identified, developed and advocated in policy-making fora. As a result, Sweden increased its participation in FLAG-ERA projects. Swedish innovations world presented in the world leading graphene conference. Collaborations have been initiated and calls developed in the areas of vehicles, barriers/surfaces and graphene electronics all important for Swedish industry.

Expected results and effects

The resulting proposals for calls can now be used as a basis for collaborations and for advocating the Swedish interest in Horizon Europe. For the areas graphene electronics and barriers/surfaces, the calls are linked to future business and products of Swedish companies and they are expected to take part in applications to the resulting calls. For the area of graphene batteries for vehicles, the next step for addressing the interests of Swedish actors is a collaboration between SIO Grafen and Battery 2030+ in the form of a conference on the subject in November 2019.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been carried out in collaboration with SIO Grafen and this has worked well. In line with increased maturity of graphene technologies, interest in European collaborations has increased in companies; Initially, the degree of maturity and competence were obstacles to implementation. The needs could be met by SIO Grafen. It has been difficult to identify activities that create good value at a reasonable cost. One conclusion is that this type of advocacy project provides better dividends in areas where there is a clear business interest and expertise of commercial actors.
