Project duration October 2014 - December 2017
Status Completed
Venture Strategic innovation programme for process industrial IT and automation – PiiA

Purpose and goal

PiiA research was a strategic effort to strengthen, coordinate and network the academy within PiiA´s research area, phase 1, 2014-2016, but extended beyond 2017. The project has completed three parts during the period: i) National Postdoctoral Program, ii) Research Network, iii) Project Portfolio Analysis.

Expected results and effects

PiiA´s postdoctoral program, which financed six postdoctoral projects in 2015-2017, became very successful and had a major impact on the research environments that received support. Several of these younger researchers will be active at the Academy in the future and will contribute to the research area. PiiA´s research portfolio has had 19 FUI projects in addition to postdoctoral projects. These are well distributed in the different environments, although the institute dominates. Mining, forests and biotec are the dominant sectors of the FUI projects.

Planned approach and implementation

In the National Postdoctoral Program, PiiA financed six postdoctoral projects in 2015-2017. Postdoctoral projects funded 50% of PiiA and 50% of academy. In addition, the projects also had industrial co-financing in kind corresponding to PiiA´s support. The total budget amounted to approximately 18 MSEK. Research networks were focused around specific research workshops and in 2016 the first organized several new collaborations, but unfortunately, meetings in 2017 were canceled.
