Purpose and goal

Purpose: To increase the knowledge of personnel at small and middle-size pharmaceutical companies (SMEs) about the various steps in pharmaceutical development. Goal: To give the participants insight of the pharmaceutical development process from start to end. Target Group: SME´s employees. Accomplishments: After the course the participants (84.5 % from SMEs) considered themselves to have a more comprehensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical development process. Since most of the participants came from SMEs,the goal of the course is therefore considered as fulfilled.

Expected results and effects

Personnel at SMEs are highly specialised and often lack knowledge on the various steps of the pharmaceutical development process which results in new medicines in the market. Upon completion of the course the participants expressed to have acquired a more comprehensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical development process and therefore to be better prepared to deal with CROs and other consulting companies participating in pharmaceutical development. This ultimately will result in more effective development projects and in an increasing number of medicines to help the patients.

Planned approach and implementation

- The course covered the various aspects of pharmaceutical development at an introductory level. As suggested by the participants, biological medicines will be included in the next course on pharmaceutical development. - All lecturers (24) had experience and knowledge in pharmaceutical development at SMEs. - The course (3 days) was given during the spring term (14 - 16 of March 2016). In the participants´ oppinion this was a very suitable period for the course. - The course was fully booked (45 participants). We already have 15 registered participants for the next course (spring 2017).
