Purpose and goal

The objectives with this project was to develop a mobile application that provides personalized news in real-time to smartphone users. The service also helps media companies, bloggers and writers to to get more readers to their content and help them to increase their revenues. The service has been up for 8 months and every week 16,7% of the user base are active which is a high number. The rating on Google Play Store is 4.1 which is also a high number. This shows that the application developed is automatically recommending content with high quality and that this is apprechiated by the users.

Results and expected effects

High retention that has been achived proves that the project has been successful and the quality of the service is high. The quality has been achived by using the search, tagging and ranking algorithms in this project The unique feature with Sumlines service that that this retention can be achived automatically, based on algorithms and not using editors. We are confident that this represents the future for distribution of media content and that this technology will during the next 10 years change the value chain for the media industry.

Approach and implementation

The proposed project was a co-operation between Sumline AB and researchers within the area of Big Data at KTH. The main bulk of the work was done a the start-up Sumline AB but people at KTH was also participating during the course of the project.
