Important results from the project
The goal is to create better conditions not only for sustainable forest management with better cultural and environmental concerns, but also for applications in recreation, outdoor activities, nature experience and more. To gather information about our Open data has made them easier to access. It has also become clearer how they may be used. Our data sources have been reviewed and it has been a priority of the layers that will be available at the Portal and which also can be accessed via an API.
Expected long term effects
With open API, application developers get the ability to create apps and other systems of both traditional forest-related applications as well as brand new. Through the API that has been built, it is easy even for developers with no GIS experience to use our data. The API was published in August and is only tested, not used in any application. The promotion will continue.
Approach and implementation
The project comprises the following parts: -Study to specify which data to be open. At an early stage it was decided to start by doing the same data as in the Portal accessible via an API and concentrate on information about culture and nature heritage. -An API was developed and three different questions can be asked against it. -The API was published and documented. -Marketing through information on the website and in meetings with the forestry sector and authorities. More work remains.
