Open Data in the Nordics II - (ODIN II)

Reference number
Coordinator RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB - RISE ICT Viktoria
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 760 000
Project duration January 2019 - December 2021
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project has been to increase cooperation between Nordic actors in public transport who publish open data. This has taken place primarily through joint standardization initiatives (today there is a joint Nordic NeTEx and SIRI profile established as a result of the project), investigations and pilots on the sharing of software components based on open source (using the Nordics profiles), joint interpretation of the EU regulations and knowledge sharing in relevant areas.

Expected results and effects

Within ODIN II, Nordic standard profiles and associated governance have been created for NeTEx pt 1 and 2 and SIRI. These are expected to live over time, but the change control board is expected to be able to handle additional standards over time. In addition, common software components are also expected for e.g. trip planning and stop management are used live by several of the project parties (based on these profiles). The ODIN network is expected to persist at both specialist and managerial levels as the project have created strategic collaborations for the participating organizations.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is based on a position paper that was created at the outset of the project. There, common standards were identified as most important, followed by the sharing of components between organizations (based on these standards), as well as the interpretation of common EU directives. Important success factors have been an inclusive attitude to the number of involved actors, finding the balance between pressing and strategic issues, frequent recurring meetings, and 1-2 physical meetings/year.
