Purpose and goal

A new method and product for more efficient work preparation at construction sites has been evaluated. The hypothesis is to improve the quality, make work meetings more productive, provide workers with complete information and improve evaluation. 4 field trials and a market investigation with hundred production managers have been performed. Aim to find evidence that expected added values is achievable in practice and get construction companies standpoints on broader usage. Qualitative evaluation method has been applied.

Results and expected effects

SyncroSite is perceived secure, reliable and easy to use. Integration is requested with products for material estimation, project planning, document storage and procurement. User should perceive all functionality delivered by one virtual ICT product. Now, it requires unnecessary extra work to use the products. Integration with BIM Contact is a step in the right direction. Large benefits are expected to larger construction projects. But the construction companies evaluate the product on small/medium sized projects. For them it isn´t possible to motivate the required extra work.

Approach and implementation

Qualitative evaluation was applied. At first field trials, proposal for improvements was received, implemented and evaluated continuously. At the last field trial, the SyncroSite functionality was unchanged through the trial period. Qualitative interview was performed with site manager after 4-month trial period. The market investigation was performed through phone-interviews with hundred construction site managers in Sweden. The material has been evaluated with conclusions.
