Important results from the project

The aim of the project was to develop and test a norm-creative method to make municipal information more understandable for people with another mother tongue and who have difficulty in understanding information in Swedish. By working closely with the target group throughout the project and utilizing the experience of different professions in the municipality, the project has successfully provided support to communicators and increased empowerment to people who have difficulty understanding written Swedish.

Expected long term effects

The project´s results show that a well-thought-out communication that combines text with images and makes a clear visual distinction between different types of information makes it much easier for people with a different mother tongue to understand information and act upon instruction. By disseminating the knowledge that the project has produced and showing good examples, we expect that municipalities and authorities outside of the project will gradually change their way of working with information for this target group.

Approach and implementation

The design of the project, with a combination of municipal expertise on societal information from Botkyrka, accessibility specialists from Funka who work practically in designing and processing the municipal information and conducting user tests, and the scientific approach to methodology and analysis that Linnaeus University brings, ensures a fruitful collaboration that covers broad perspectives. The implementation has worked very well with inspiring discussions and high ambitions from all parties.
