Reference number
Coordinator Konstfack - Institutionen för design, konsthantverk & konst
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration November 2014 - August 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The pilot aimed at creating spaces where experiences and knowledge from seemingly diverse fields of practice, could be exchanged with a focus on norm-critical/creative perspectives on visual communication, and on the presence of harmful visual stereotypes within massmedia. The ultimate purpose was to gauge the possibilities for further joint research and development of methods, in order to create and implement tools for normcritical praxes within fields of visual communication. The pilot showed that future joint, practically aimed, projects have great innovative potential.

Results and expected effects

The exchange of knowledge and experiences within the frames of the pilot will be implemented in the everyday practice of each parther, thus strenghtening the norm-critical/creative perspectives within the diverse field of visual communication. The pilot created networks and links between seemingly very disparate institutions, laying the groundwork for future, innovative joint projects in relation to norm-critical/creative perspectives and praxes within the field of visual communication.

Approach and implementation

The pilot consisted of four full-day seminars, planned and arranged by each partner, and thus moving physically between the institutions from Sveavägen to Botkyrka. The seminars offered lectures/stagings in line with the unique qualifications of each parther (thus, the day at Unga Klara included a dance performance as well as a dramatic production), including workshops where the participants were invited to put theory into practice. The structure ensured that the pilot benefited from the diverse competences of the partners.
