Nattaro Labs - Detection and eradication system against bed bugs, which replace humans being bait

Reference number
Coordinator NATTARO LABS AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 879 400
Project duration April 2013 - September 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Our aim is to develop a combination of products that will replace the presence of a human being during extermination of the bedbugs. The product combination is based on new development and optimization of an active monitor trap as well as an optimization of the most efficient odour combinations and concentrations to attract bed bugs. In the project we have achieved our goal to design a trap that in combination with odours that lasts for sufficient time, will catch the bedbugs as well as it is easy to inspect.

Results and expected effects

The project has led to a functional solution for attracting and catching bedbugs without the presence of humans in the room that is subject for pest control activities. The project is now entering the production development phase, and we are focusing on converting the design the functional into a commercial product ready for the market. We have archived a release time of approx. 14 days, which gives as a flexible solution that can be adapted to a multiple of areas, businesses and pest control strategies.

Approach and implementation

The project has been carried out in 4 sub-projects and together with our partners, Lunds University, SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden and Ingenjörsprojekt. The project set-up has been working well even though we have been conducting work, analysis and experiments in different locations simultaneously. Analysis´s has been conducted in Stockholm and Borås. The gathering and analysis of scents as well as experiments with living insects have been conducted n Lund. There have been some delays in the project, but it is related to technical issues, not the project set-up.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
