Purpose and goal

To have close and secure access to accurate measurements that can be traced to the SI is a prerequisite for a modern industrial society and is supported overall through Sweden´s membership of the Metre Convention. SP is responsible for physical metrology in accordance with a specific regulation about the national metrology system. SP is a signatory of a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) in international metrology and for the Swedish membership of the European Association of National Metrology Institutes, EURAMET. In all these respects, the goal is met.

Results and expected effects

To provide calibrations on a preferably high accuracy level, forming a basis for an upshift to significantly more calibrations at lower levels of accuracy, to serve as a national competence center for quality assured measurements of metrological knowledge through education and training to the country´s industry and universities, to work in a program of R & D in metrology to meet technology development and future needs for traceable and quality assured measurements, including participation in the European Metrology Research Program, EMRP

Approach and implementation

Activities as a National Metrology Institute in 2013 and 2014 followed the original project plan and are conducted in five areas, Realization of measurement units and its maintenance including participation in international comparisons, Metrology R & D, Investments in reference equipment, Time and frequency activities related to the infrastructure of the Swedish Internet and Metrology in Chemistry. The work was completed on schedule and has continuously been reported to VINNOVA´s program committee on four occasions during 2013 and five times in 2014.
