NANOVA 2: Feasibility study for a Swedish nano production facility: enabling nanomaterials-based industry

Reference number
Coordinator Lunds universitet - Nanometerkonsortiet
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 500 000
Project duration December 2014 - June 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The Project has developed a concept for a commercially operated pilot-line facility dedicated to nanotechnology-related products and applications. ProNano will be a cornerstone in an ecosystem in commercialization of nanotechnology, adjacent to the large Lund research centers ESS and MAX IV. This investment will be important for companies located in Sweden and northern Europe, to enable them to meet the challenges in commercializing nanotechnology. Growing companies are normally not equipped to make the investments necessary, to develop and commercialize their technology.

Expected results and effects

The project has created a sustainable business model and strategic plan moving forward. In addition, the project has gained strong support from many companies, authorities, academia, institutes, investment funds and other interested parties. The project is expected to provide ProNano with the support necessary, to start the operation and thus establishing a pilot line facility for nanotechnology-enabled products during 2018.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was carried out in collaboration between several interest organizations. Due to the large interest that ProNano created, several other parties joined along the way. The project has worked extensively with meeting interested parties individually and in round-table discussions, in order to gather information regarding the possibilities and viability of ProNano, and to solidify the concept. Those inputs, in combination with investigational trips, the parties own knowledge and market analysis´s, have led to the success of the project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
