Purpose and goal
The project’s overall aim has been to contribute to increased knowledge about academic merits in relation to external engagement and collaboration, as well as to stimulate and support Swedish universities to use and implement these in a more structured and harmonised way. The goal has been that the project results should come into practice at the universities. The gained knowledge and experience has been transformed into concrete tools, ways of working and recommendations for further development of academic merits in relation to external engagement and collaboration.
Expected results and effects
The project has resulted in knowledge of merits from external engagement and collaboration, new tools and working methods as well as recommendations. The project has developed educational material on integration of external engagement and collaboration merits, a guide on how to document and describe merits from external engagement and collaboration, a report on key concepts and a final report. The knowledge developed, practical experience and tools can be implemented with respect to the university´s focus, ambition and goals with external engagement and collaboration merits.
Planned approach and implementation
The project has through a dialogue-based approach, involving assessment committees and recruitment functions, been studying how collaboration merits are presented and evaluated. More than 200 academic staff have been involved in project activities: pilot work; mapping of steering documents; analysis of recruitment and promotion cases as well as dialogues and surveys on external engagement and collaboration merits. There has been five project workshops and a final conference. Dialogues and meetings have taken place with sector networks, stakeholders and k3 projects.
