Media seminars for researchers 2015

Reference number
Coordinator VETENSKAP & ALLMÄNHET, VA - Vetenskap & Allmänhet VA
Funding from Vinnova SEK 72 000
Project duration January 2015 - December 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the seminars is to inspire researchers to take part in public debate. The aim is to give researchers a better understanding of how media works and to facilitate their collaboration with journalists as well as with the communications department of their university.

Expected results and effects

Researchers participating in the seminars are expected to become more active in public debate and to participate in mass media more than previously. The fact that the four research councils Vetenskapsrådet, VINNOVA, Forte and Formas are organising the seminars sends the message that key research funding bodies are keen to see researchers participating in mass media. To make the presentations available for others than the attendees, the seminars are documented in text and video, and published at the organisers´ respective websites.

Planned approach and implementation

Two semi day seminars give researchers an introduction to the news media and how journalists work. Participating experts are researchers with massive media experience, senior journalists and university communicators. The programme will be decided jointly by the organisers and the host university/ies. Two seminars took place on 10 March 2015 in collaboration with Halmstad University and on 1 Dec 2015 in collaboration with Stockholm University. Two more seminars will be organised in 2016 in collaboration with Linköping University and preliminary Malmö University.
