Purpose and goal
The project has been aimed at investigating the potential of reinforcing packaging paper with a type of modified cellulose fiber. Property enhancements have not been at a level that trigger a start commercialization of the concept.
Expected results and effects
The project has not been able to demonstrate a commercial basis for the proposed technology through studies of laboratory-made sheets with the addition of modified fibers. On the other hand, the projet has significantly increased the understanding of market needs and the technical understanding of the use of modified fibers for packaging purposes. The project will not result in an application for a bridging project, but in further R&D on a more fundamental level
Planned approach and implementation
The cooperation between the project partners has funktioned well, where both planning, technical measurements and progress of the project were carried out by the parties together. Since the material has not reached the elongation and strengths properties antisipated in the hypothesis, some part of the planned investigations such as flat bed forming of fluting, have not been possible and the project has instead focused more on material sciance and understanding on interaction between the different fiber types.
