Reference number
Coordinator Lingio AB - SUP46
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration June 2016 - December 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project has had as goal to bring together refugees and local Swedes in an online language learning community, where they together can practice on the Swedish language. With the use of digital technologies we enable a large group of individuals to connect, offer interactive language courses and digital functions that make learning of the local language much more effective. Although there is a shortage of teachers across the country, we can offer a solution where local Swedes can act as language coaches to refugees and help them to learn the language faster and more efficiently.

Expected results and effects

Lingio has developed technology that enable refugees and local Swedes to meet online in a language learning community, where they can match on various useful criteria. They can easily start a conversation with each other in the app and the language coach can make use of practical functions in order to help refugees with their studies in the Swedish language. The combination of being able to get active help with studying interactive courses in Swedish as well as conversational practice online with locals, will make learning of the language truly more effective for the refugees.

Planned approach and implementation

The project group have in cooperation during the project developed new community functionality, new work processes and strengthened our joint collaboration for the future. We have together composed a user centric development model where the target group is highly involved during the development by actively providing feedback and suggestions on functionality and content. This has resulted in a product that is based on actual user needs and requirements as well as a collaborative project model that we will use for future versions of the product.
