Purpose and goal

Advanced care in the home is increasing rapidly as the number with terminal cancer increases, as well as patients with chronicle diseases and the number of ´elderly elderly´ increases. Caring for these patients in their home calls for it-systems that are tailored for the situation. This form of care needs to be both efficient and perceived as safe by the patients. The goal of this project was to develop such a it-support system for planning, performing and supervising these mobile activities.

Results and expected effects

With a tailored support system for Palliative care it has become safer - as the risk to forget some task is eliminated, less stressful for the nurses - when everybody can se what needs to be done, and more efficient - when less effort goes into coordination and problem solving. The communication among the personell is supported and simplified. When everybody can see what needs to be done it is easier to work together. The leadership see that the work is easier to manage. A combination of a webb interface for ordinary computers and an app for touch pads allow the personell to work efficient.

Approach and implementation

The project started from a very open formulation of the problem to support care in the home. In order to understand what that could mean the project worked with a continuous involvement of users and an early prototype which gave experience and new ideas. Such a Agile method of implementation enables the user to influence what and how is included, in our case on a weekly basis. The resulting system has now been in use at a number of wards and proves to be easy to understand and learn.
