Project duration January 2015 - March 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Oatly has developed a tasty oat drink, enriched with vegetable protein, that has been shown to be as efficient as a milk-based drink for recovery in connection with physical training for common practitioners.

Results and expected effects

We have developed an oat drink with good organoleptic properties, we have tested this in a clinical study and filed a patent application. The drink has beneficial long-term potential for the health of the common consumer. It is manufactured with natural plant-based ingredients that have a substantially lower environmental footprint than similar products of animal origin.

Approach and implementation

In the first part of the project we have developed a new concept for a drink. The drink has good texture, taste and beneficial nutritional composition with respect to physical training. In the second part of the project this drink has been trialed in comparison with a milk drink and a placebo. The data indicates that the oat drink has the same effect on body composition and recovery as the dairy-based drink. Upcoming analysis of additional results from the clinical study shall more clearly illustrate the general effect of the oat drink on health, an expected improvement of metabolic profile.
