Status Completed

Purpose and goal

This project tested the lead-user method on weather information services. Based on results from a previous Vinnova program (e-services), and experiences gained while conducting the first activities, we added several new groups of potential lead-users. One contribution of this project is development of methods: a matrix of service attributes (functionalities and variables), that were matched with different lead-users. The result of this project is a series of prototypes that may provide pieces of a solution of a weather information service for the transportation market.

Results and expected effects

Applying the lead-user method generated a series of prototypes that constitute several components of an advanced information service for the Swedish Transport Administration and the transportation market. They can also be generalized and modified to suit other markets. The prototype can be commercialized. We have the advantage of using synergies with a VinnVerifiering project ´Shareweather´ that now may continue the work after finalization of this lead-user project, introducing our results on the weather information service market.

Approach and implementation

We introduced some modifications of the lead-user method, based on experiences earned during the first phase of the project. According to our intentions, we did use a test group from an earlier project, with about 10% potential lead-users. However, some new groups were also added after analysis and method development. Lead-user innovation occurred in four focus groups/workshops with different lead-users instead of one workshop which provided some interesting results. Interviews in the early phase enabled filtering and generated some concepts.
