Purpose and goal
The purpose of the project is to increase the efficiency of the machine, and thus achive the goal of decrease fuel consumption and environmental impact, while maintaining or increasing performance and functionality.
Results and expected effects
Through separation of diesel and electric drive, the efficiency of the machine has increased substantially. For instance the parasitic losses at idling is about 1/10th of a conventional machine. Since the speed of the diesel engine is less important for the machine to perform, the most efficient speeds are used to increase fuel efficiency.
Approach and implementation
The project started with development of a model for the technical concept of the hybrid technology, and the evaluation of components to be used. Implementation of the model was then conducted in a prototype machine that was developed simultaneously. The final phase of the project included development of machine software and verification and optimization of the technical concept through tests.
