Implementing innovation management system in the municipality of Motala

Purpose and goal

Motala municipality has, supported by the Management System for Innovation SIS-CEN / TS 16555, started the implementation of an innovation system. Continuous spreading of experiences, material and methods has taken place in many different contexts throughout the project period. An innovation management network has been established and trained for continued implementation and development of the innovation system. A support structure has been built in parallel with activities to strengthen a culture that promotes innovation.

Expected results and effects

Motala municipality has started the implementation of the innovation system and organised for continuation and further development. A support structure has been developed, where an innovation manual with process description, an application for sending ideas to the relevant instances and surveys that measure the innovation capability are the main features. The award ”Employee innovation of the year”, the symbolic value of an established creative work space, 1700 informed employees and improved workplace meetings contribute to an innovation-promoting climate.

Planned approach and implementation

Implementation started in eight units to develop working methods promoting innovation. 1700 employees have participated in information and education opportunities during the project period. The focus for competence development efforts has been the innovation management network and strategic networks. The award “Employee innovation of the year” has been handed out for the third year running and is based on good examples published every month. Spreading of experiences obtained during the implementation has reached 2100 persons outside the organisation.
