Project duration November 2011 - February 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project was to integrate geometry control with the manufacturing process by implementing optical metrology on the production line during operation. The purpose was to get a more direct coupling between the measurement techniques and CAE tools present. We believe that we have fulfilled this goal through the results in this project. Today we have a methodology that actually makes this possible, what remains to be verified is an actual implementation.

Results and expected effects

The scientific output from the project is eleven publications during the two years of the project that has to be considered a high number. In addition a licentiate will be presented later this spring. Furthermore, the ideas implemented in the project have gained interest among participating companies and several activities are now going on to investigate these possibilities. Also companies only remotely part of the project have been noticing the potential of the approach through the workshops.

Approach and implementation

The divisions in four different work packages have in large been successful and most project activities have been fulfilled. One mistake was, however, not to put in alternative, more mature, measurement systems at an earlier stage for the demonstration part of the project. This should have been part of the original plan. As now it became a critical part at the end of the project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
