Purpose and goal

The goal to achieve a broad dialogue on central issues within the area of semantic interoperability as well as to increase the preparedness within the procurement project 3R for collaboration with industry and academia has been reached. Communication on further needs within the area and further investments have been done. Communication with Swedish Counties is ongoing. The national Coordinator for Life Science has received the white paper and is presently considering the implementation of the proposals that were presented.

Expected results and effects

A report on the roadmap to achieve semantic interoperability within the information systems in Swedish healthcare has been produced. The analysis has resulted in 4 strategies to achieve the goal of increased interoperability. All receivers are positive to the conclusions and several implementation projects have been initiated based on what was proposed in the report.

Planned approach and implementation

Four analyses have been done: Standards in medical informatics, modes for collaboration within innovation in health care, the competence on handling medical information systems locally and finally the road to semantic interoperability in swedish health care based on international standards. The main report has amalgamated these sub-reports and proposed 4 pragmatic strategies that leads towards an increased semantic interoperability in health care information systems.
