Purpose and goal
The Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research is a highly respected international Award given annually to a leading scholar in the fields of entrepreneurship, innovation and small business. The overall aim of the project is to further establish the award as the leading award in its field and broaden the knowledge of the award as such, but also to generate knowledge transfer from the research that is being awarded. Since the first award was given in 1996, it has grown steadily in recognition and credibility, continuously reaching a broader audience, both academic and non-academic.
Results and expected effects
A prize worthy contribution needs to be original and influential in the field of entrepreneurship and innovation. Since its inception, Award winning contributions can be said to have reflected the extraordinary width of entrepreneurship as a social science field. In addition, the knowledge transfer is imperative and has been of great importance. Numerous seminars, journal entries, research papers and meetings have been generated from the research rewarded, reaching further than the strictly academic community, giving policy makers valuable insights in this field.
Approach and implementation
A cyclical selection process that is rigorous resembles the nomination process for the Nobel Prize. Some 900 scholars worldwide are invited to nominate candidates and award winning contributions should reflect the extraordinary width of entrepreneurship as a social science. An independent Award Committee is responsible for the evaluation and selection of candidates for the Award, guaranteeing the academic quality of the work rewarded. In addition, numerous activities are undertaken with the specific aim of transferring the knowledge generated by the award winning research.
