Generic, systematic process for making open data public available

Reference number
Coordinator Naturvårdsverket
Funding from Vinnova SEK 800 000
Project duration December 2015 - August 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project has developed a generic process for making information available, an associated metadata process and a Swedish version of the English Data Management Maturity Model (adapted to fit the Swedish Environmental Protection Agencys regulations). The deliveries are published on the Agency´s website under an open license. Two data sets were published as open data within the framework of the Project and the Swedish EPA share information about the Project in a number of different ways as for example in a webinar.

Expected results and effects

There are expectations that the effects will occur also within other organisations since the tools are shared in public . Usage of the tools can give effects as more effective, more secure information management, better conditions for the creation of open data and more open data. The work of implementing the result of the project is now starting within the Swedish EPA as part of a revision of the central management system. The vision of the Strategy for Environmental Data Management is that well managed environmental data is of significant benefit and makes a difference for the environment.

Planned approach and implementation

The conference ´Next steps´ was a good kick-off for the Project. The Project has continuously been testing the developed tool and process (three times for each) on the information owners and experts and we have improved the delivery according to the results of the tests. The goal was to develop useful and practical tools for the organisation. The subjects of the tests have expressed an interest in using the result from the Project.
