Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Hold an innovation competition where the aim is to create optimized systems: for those who sort their waste with the systems, contractors who collect the different fractions and those who are responsible for maintaining the systems. The goal has been to hold the innovation competition so that new and innovative solutions can be created for well-functioning and attractive waste management in dense urban environments. The project has met both the purpose and the goals.

Expected results and effects

In total, the competition received twelve approved entries. Three entries were given the opportunity to develop their ideas and present their proposals at a final seminar in Visby July 4 where the winners of the competition were announced. The entries which were received for the competition demonstrate ways to solve waste management and recycling of resources in new ways and this can lead to changes in the construction or reconstruction of existing residential living environments.

Planned approach and implementation

A working group with representatives from the VA SYD, SLU Alnarp and Malmö City has planned and implemented the project. During the contest period, both experts and jurors from the above organizations participated as well MKB Fastighets AB and Circulation and water, the City of Gothenburg. The Innovation competition was conducted in two stages. The closing seminar with discussion and award ceremony was conducted in Visby July 4, 2016. All finalists won 100 000 SEK each, and the final winner received an additional 100 000 SEK. Cooperation between organizations has been constructive.
