Purpose and goal

With the purpose of understanding crashes several types of traffic data are gathered. In this project a statistical framework was developed and successfully applied to use these data in parallel to quantify accident risk for a set of precrash factors.

Results and expected effects

The method that was developed is general and can be applied towards other accident types and data sets. The results from such studies can be used to understand crashes and prioritize suitable solutions in vehicles and in the traffic environment.

Approach and implementation

The project was divided into three parts: A pre-study, method development and application of method. Based on a data inventory and available literature a method framework was developed, the framework was then applied towards run-off-road crashes in curves and crash risk was quantified for a number of precrash factors.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
