Purpose and goal

The aim of creating a foundation for a mobile Fab Lab Mid Sweden is absolutely achieved and we have a good start of a three-dimensional solid plan for implementing a mobile Fab Lab in the region. The biggest challenges have proved to be the logistics and the choice of business model, we need to immerse ourselves in more details before we put together the final implementation model. All project participants also agree that there is a need for a quality assurance system, but this can not be done until the model is designed.

Results and expected effects

The preparatory study generated considerable interest and created a broad consensus on the idea in the entire county and all sectors of society. During the study, we have involved students and teachers from both municipal and independent elementary and secondary schools, teachers, entrepreneurs, representatives of public organizations - they all see a lot of advantages and benefits that could be achieved through a mobile Fab Lab. Also the existing stationary units in the county, Komtech and Technichus, welcomes the idea and the potential synergies.

Approach and implementation

The preliminary study has been carried out using the 21 model. It is based on a fairly large collaboration group with equal representation from public, private and voluntary sectors. Participants were six private actors, seven from the public sector and six from the voluntary sector. The model worked well and resulted in the widespread support that was sought. The 21 model also creates new long-term relationships between actors from different sectors, which in itself adds value to the participants. Biggest challenge with 21 model is to find the meeting date by which all can participate.
