Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project was to develop concepts for immersive, multimodal experiences in the intersection between the physical and virtual realms. The services enhances the experience for visitors of museums. The project developed concept sketches focused on multi-modal storytelling. Applications of functional, interactive sound was of special importance in the project, The results are eight experience concepts, extended knowledge about the area of functional interactive service design development and a foundation for further collaboration between the project partners.

Results and expected effects

Eight user centered developed concepts for interactive, multimodal services that enhances the experience of visitors and strengthens the attractiveness of the museum. The project enabled the service design supplier to develop a commercial offer of service design in museum exhibition contexts. The research partner have extended their knowledge of how to apply sound design in interactive service design processes. The constellation of partners will be used in further projects, such as the design and development of upcoming exhibition concepts at Skellefteå Museum.

Approach and implementation

The project was conducted according to plan. The service design method used in the process was very helpful and served the purposes of the project well. The outcome of the project was in line with the expectations or beyond and the partnership of the three actors have improved and resulted in an alliance for future work. The outcome in terms of research was not in line with the expectations when it comes to output in scientific publications, but all the research conducted in the project will be utilized in future publications.
