Purpose and goal
The international market for water treatment sets high demands on water quality. There are more than 600 000 water treatment plants that are all potential customers. WMS brings together two SME´s and one research institute. Aqua-Q of Sweden with real time monitoring of water, PML of Israel with its unique ´In Process monitoring laser particle analyze´-technique and IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. The goal for WMS is to use a high resolution particle sensor for detecting and identify parasites in water.
Results and expected effects
The system gives a unique signal for parasites and this signal is also detected in surface water which is very promising results. The system is trained to identify this signal in the surface water and separates the signal from all other particles in the water. More trials are needed to verify that there are no false positives and to determine the detection limit for the system.
Approach and implementation
By analyzing water that are free from particles (made through reversed osmosis) and add parasites to that water the system was trained with algorithms for fingerprint and clustering techniques to identify the unique signal from the parasites. In the next step surface water was analyzed both with and without parasites to validate that the system only responded to parasites and not all the other particles in the surface water (false positives).
