Project duration October 2011 - September 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The goal is reached with respect to world class research, especially in empirical software engineering, as indicated by publications and role in the research community. The purpose to provide a competitive advantage for industry is reached through the center within specific narrow fields, while through the education, competency is provided in a wider field. There are additional fields in which competency is needed, although not covered by the limited resources.

Expected results and effects

The center has catalyzed an intensive exchange between academia and industry partners, in more than 200 meetings, PhD students working at the partners, and through industrial PhD students. One partner has grown significantly in the period, while two have reduced their businesses significantly; hence, the center´s role with respect to role is impossible to assess. The education has increased at LU with 1/3 in the period, and BTH has acted in a project for continued education for industry staff on software engineering.

Planned approach and implementation

The thematic approach has worked well where there is clear stakeholders at the companies, and where regular meetings are held. The pair-wise connection between companies and between industry partners have provided new perspectives. Access to workplace and ID cards at the companies have provided good conditions for PhD students, while reorganizations have hindered the continuity.
