Purpose and goal

The project aims to develop a method that with high-frequency welding (HF) join metal to plastic material (eg PVC and PUR). Testing has proven the technology with results that involve 10-15 times faster joining and with joints that are more homogeneous, dense and stronger. The aesthetic appearance of joints is also cleaner and simpler. Initially, production is largely manual. Design of an automated production is underway with the goal that construction will start in 2023 / 24. Market introduction is planned during the third quarter of 2021.

Expected results and effects

Coating process: Process and properties verified. Methodology for full-scale production in development Welding process for PVC to metal: Excisting HF welding machines can be used after minor adjustments Demonstration plant: Building completed and in use. Specification for full-scale production during completion but awaits decision on level of automation Business development: Market potential assessed as significant. Careful introduction despite high demand. Separate manufacturing company: Business plan completed. Start-up in Forsstrom´s existing premises

Planned approach and implementation

Classic control model with Working Groups, Steering Group, Work Package (WP) and an Project Management Plan for control and monitoring of implementation. A daily prioritization of resources made implementation more difficult. Approx. 230 sub-activities that were predominantly completed within the time frame. Eligibility requirements for new materials have been forced for health- and environmental reasons and COVID-19 has meant that project activities have been forced into a state of silence. Together, this has led to delays and the project time has been extended by 6 + 6 months.
