Important results from the project
The goal of the project was to create a Nordic technical collaboration platform with representatives from Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark, which includes all relevant stakeholders including authorities. Although funding is not solved yet was a forum created and there is a clearly expressed interest from authorities and especially the industry to work towards a common system. The key to success is to find a multi-year funding, which will require commitment from the authorities.
Expected long term effects
Contacts and conditions have been created for Nordic co-operation with representatives from Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark regarding materials in contact with drinking water. A Nordic funded project is expected to start in the autumn. The project has shown that the research organizations themselves (Swerea KIMAB and Sintef primarily) need to pursue these issues and find funding. The contacts made with 4MS group builds a solid foundation for further cooperation and to give Sweden the opportunity to influence the EU on rules for materials in contact with drinking water.
Approach and implementation
Three workshops were organized with the participation of research institutes, authorities and industry in the Nordic countries. How authorities can support work through ´Letter of Intent´ related to specific calls was established. An application for a Nordic development project is processed. The Nordic rules related to materials in contact with drinking water have been summarized. Frequent discussions have been held with representatives from German 4MS about cooperation possibilities incl. seminars in Sweden. Construction organizations were included in these discussions.
