Development of imsson forage machine

Reference number
Coordinator Imsson Naturteknik AB - Imsson Naturteknik AB Hults Gård
Funding from Vinnova SEK 499 800
Project duration June 2014 - December 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of this pilot study was to create opportunities for a more efficient forage harvest through a unique equipment that brings together four different working operations in one single machine. By development / modification / evaluation of an existing prototype, the objective was to create a commercial basis for deciding on a follow-up research and development project. The pilot study has turned out so well that the company Imsson Naturteknik intends, if financing is made possible, proceed with the current machine concept by building a full-width prototype.

Expected results and effects

The gradual development of the existing prototype during the pilot study has resulted in a machine that on the whole is working well. Based on the experiences made, the intention is to build a full-width prototype, possible to present to potential buyers at machine demonstrations and trade shows. Such a machine would allow for a more comprehensive evaluation of parameters essential for the profitability of forage harvest. Taken together this is expected to lead to increased commercial interest in the concept.

Planned approach and implementation

An essential part of the pilot study was to evaluate how well the prototype managed the different working operations during harvest of forage with different botanical composition and maturity. Among other things, tendency to losses and the influence on forage drying process were studied. Based on these experiences, the machine was gradually modified. For future activities, contacts have been taken with manufacturing companies. These discussions have resulted in that the company SSAB intends to provide high-strength steel to reduce the weight of the coming full-width prototype.
